MEALS & BREAKS
1017.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
This policy provides general guidance regarding the availability of meal periods and breaks.
1017.2 POLICY
It is the policy of the Lincoln Police Department to provide meal periods and breaks to members of this department.
1017.3 MEAL PERIODS
Uniform Officers' meal periods shall be a half hour in length, and they shall remain on-duty subject to call during the meal periods. No more than 2 marked units shall take a meal break at the same location at the same time while on-duty.
Uniform Officers shall request clearance from the supervisor prior to taking a meal period. Uniformed officers shall take their meal periods within the police jurisdiction and shall monitor the police radio, unless on assignment outside of the City.
All personnel of the Criminal Investigations Division shall take breaks as time permits and shall be of a reasonable length of time. Employees are expected to adhere to the approved time for meal breaks, unless a supervisor has granted an extension.
These policies and operating procedures are not designed to cover every possible scenario or situation in society, but rather to define standard operating procedures for members of the Lincoln Police Department. These guidelines are subject to past, present and future judicial review. These guidelines can be amended and or repealed by the Chief of Police as necessary. The policies and procedures herein provided supersede all previous policies and orders.
