SEPARATION OF EMPLOYMENT
1031.1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for the separation of an employee from the employment of the Lincoln Police Department. This policy shall apply to retirement and the resignation of employment.
1031.2 POLICY
This policy provides procedures for the separation from employment for Lincoln Police Department personnel.
1031.3 NOTICE REQUIREMENTS
Notice of retirement shall be submitted 30 - 90 days prior to the effective date of the termination of employment. Notice of resignation shall be submitted at least two weeks prior to the effective date of the termination of employment. Both methods shall be submitted in writing, via the chain of command, to the Chief of Police.
1031.4 DEPARTMENTAL ISSUE TURN IN
Personnel shall turn in all issued clothing and equipment as directed by the Chief of Police or his or her designee.
All departmental clothing and equipment shall be turned in as required, and the Personnel Clothing and Equipment Record shall indicate that the items have been turned in. It shall be signed/dated and placed in the employee's personnel record.
Included with clothing and equipment, turn in any items issued from a special unit or team.
The departing member will be offered or may request to participate in an Exit Interview. Participation is greatly appreciated but voluntary for all members. Everything discussed during exit interviews shall be kept confidential. Please refer to the Exit Interview Program policy for procedures and questionnaire form. The Chief of Police or his designee shall file the appropriate reports with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards & Training Commission as required by 36-21-55. The information provided under this section shall not be released to non-law enforcement related personnel. No exception!
These policies and operating procedures are not designed to cover every possible scenario or situation in society, but rather to define standard operating procedures for members of the Lincoln Police Department. These guidelines are subject to past, present and future judicial review. These guidelines can be amended and or repealed by the Chief of Police as necessary. The policies and procedures herein provided supersede all previous policies and orders.
